Florida Genealogical Society (Tampa)

Serving the Needs of the Genealogical Community for Over 50 Years

Volunteer for an FGS project!

The Florida Genealogical Society of Tampa serves its local genealogical community and the genealogical community around the world by engaging in a variety of interesting and rewarding service projects.  For more information about any of these projects, contact FGS member David Hoffman.
Current projects include:
  1. Ask a Genealogist.  One or more volunteers staff a table in the John F. Germany Public Library's genealogical collection room, assisting patrons with their research.  The service is offered on the first Saturday of each month, from 1pm to 3pm, and different volunteers volunteer for different months. We took the AAG project on the road in Spring 2014 to four other library branches. We are looking at doing that again later in the year.
  2. Memorial Park Cemetery Headstone Recording Project. We are in the process of canvassingThe Memorial Park Cemetery in Tampa. we need 2-3 times each month for about two hours, and record information from headstones, photograph headstones, and perform like cleaning(mostly just to remove accumulated grass clippings so that we can see the stone more clearly).
