Description
They Came with Hope. Join us for a genealogy workshop at the John F. Germany Public Library Auditorium with Rue Lynn Galbraith, Secretary of the Florida Genealogical Society. Learn to solve the mysteries of immigration in your family history using resources available in the library and those that can be found online! There will be a limited number of laptops to use. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop to research in real-time or a notebook.
This program is presented in association with the Henry Plant Museum’s new exhibit, “Captain’s Log: Voyages in the Age of Steam,” which prominently features as a part of the exhibit an exploration of the connection between the Plant Line’s steamship passenger logs and the genealogical story of several of Tampa’s oldest families.
The workshop will include a 30 – 40 minute presentation by myself on locating passenger lists and Nationalization Records.
The primary focus will be on the records found on FamilySearch since it is free. Along with Ancestry.com records, then an hour of hands-on research with laptops from the library and the ones brought by the attendees. With a ten-minute wrap-up
I need a few volunteers to help answer questions about logging into FamilySearch, creating an account, and general search help.
