DNA Searching – How Modern DNA Testing Helps Locate Biological Family and Health Information

What do you do when the paper trail on your family ends, but you still have unanswered questions? What if you have no way to access information on ancestors because of the laws surrounding an adoption, an ancestor never knew their father, or was a passenger on an orphan train? Many genealogical questions that once remained a mystery can now be answered due to modern developments in DNA testing. How can DNA testing answer questions about the past, and what happens when it uncovers family secrets involve living family? Can the same DNA test used for genealogy purposes tell us anything about our own health?
This presentation will introduce you to the use of DNA testing being used by many genealogists, told from the perspective of genetic counselor and DNA coach Brianne Kirkpatrick, an experienced DNA searcher and co-author of “The DNA Guide for Adoptees.” You’ll get an overview of the common uses of DNA testing today and leave equipped with additional resources for learning more on your own.
