Biography
Billie Stone Fogarty, a full-time professional genealogist, is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and serving on the APG Board of Directors from 2009 through 2019 with four years as president. She was selected as the recipient of the Grahame T. Smallwood Jr Award of Merit in 2020 for her personal commitment and outstanding service to APG.
Billie is active on the regional, state, and local level in advancing genealogical research and open records access as the state liaison for the Records Preservation and Access Coalition (RPAC). She serves the Oklahoma Genealogical Society (7 terms as President, Board of Directors, various committees and jobs) and the Oklahoma Historical Society (Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Research, Publications, and Development Committees).
With Bachelor and Master of Education degrees, her background as an educator shows through in her passion for leading others to discover their own family history. She has taught genealogical principles and research methods to learners of all ages and by a variety of means from writing lessons and books to recorded presentations and live television. A frequent speaker at national and state genealogy conferences, Billie also served four years as president of the Genealogical Speakers Guild.
